Melissa gave a talk and asked strangers if they knew there were dopamine cells in the hypothalamus (answer is YES!). Bianca and Mikayla presented posters.
Oh, and for fun, we walked along Santa Monica beach, hiked sandy dunes in Malibu, listened to sunbathing sea lions bark at one another, and got introduced to Trader Joe’s.

We have a lively neuroscience community in Ottawa, and it’s very cool to join forces with uOttawa and all affiliate hospitals for the Brain Health Research Day. This was a student-focused, fun, engaging platform to hone our skills at asking questions, molding our presentation skills, and having fun as a scientist.
Individual highlights, no particular order:
- Jesukhogie, Persephone, and Yasmina each presented their first in-person poster!
- Nikita captivated the audience by talking about sleep – oh the irony
- Bianca won the Best Poster Award for a Master’s student
