Summer-end-welcome-back retreat 2022

September 9th, 2022

We enjoyed an easy hike in Gatineau Park and enjoyed a picnic on the MacKenzie King Estate. The sun was shining brightly, the lawn was luscious, our legs were tired, but the camaraderie was priceless. Modern amenities on the premises, as promised

Support our Science Rally

August 11th, 2022

It’s important that we are part of the change that we want to see. We joined the rally at Parliament Hill to petition the Trudeau government to increase tricouncil support for graduate students and postdocs

Oh, hai!

Summer 2022

No summer at Carleton could be complete without plentiful groundhog sightings. Gotta see ‘em all!

Gordon Research Conference - Hypothalamus

July 24-29, 2022

What an AWESOME conference dedicated to our collective love for the hypothalamus.
Melissa gave a talk and asked strangers if they knew there were dopamine cells in the hypothalamus (answer is YES!). Bianca and Mikayla presented posters.
Oh, and for fun, we walked along Santa Monica beach, hiked sandy dunes in Malibu, listened to sunbathing sea lions bark at one another, and got introduced to Trader Joe’s.

Brain Health Research Day

June 3, 2022

We have a lively neuroscience community in Ottawa, and it’s very cool to join forces with uOttawa and all affiliate hospitals for the Brain Health Research Day. This was a student-focused, fun, engaging platform to hone our skills at asking questions, molding our presentation skills, and having fun as a scientist.

Individual highlights, no particular order:

-  Jesukhogie, Persephone, and Yasmina each presented their first in-person poster!

-  Nikita captivated the audience by talking about sleep – oh the irony

-  Bianca won the Best Poster Award for a Master’s student
